STEM Summer Camp Counsellor: Job Description

Do you have a passion for education and learning? Do you love working with children and youth? Do you consider yourself a coding or robotics specialist? Then we want you to join STEM Camp as a Counsellor! 
 
The Counsellor is enthusiastic and has excellent group management skills. Counsellors enjoy organizing the camp activities from setup to cleanup. The Counsellors respect health and safety procedures and are interested in developing their leadership skills.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Counsellor include but are not limited to:

  • Report to the Camp Leaders and participate in weekly mentorship sessions to support skill development and career growth
  • Facilitate hands-on STEM activities that encourage campers to explore, ask questions, and discover solutions through guided inquiry.
  • Incorporate technology and digital skill-building opportunities (coding, robotics, foundational AI skills)
  • Support activity setup, transitions, and rotations across groups
  • Create a fun, safe, and engaging atmosphere for campers
  • Model appropriate behaviour and positive interactions
  • Engage with each camper individually and ensure fair treatment for all
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to CITs and peers on activity facilitation and STEM/digital skills
  • Follow health, safety, and campsite cleaning procedures, including WHMIS, hazard checks, and emergency protocols
  • Carry out other reasonable duties requested by the Camp Coordinator, Program Coordinator, or Management Team

Note: Candidates applying for any position with STEM Camp must have a valid certificate in Standard First Aid with CPR-C from a reputable provider of first aid training as recognized by WSIB / WCB / WorkSafe BC, as well as a Police Check in the Vulnerable Sector that was issued no earlier than August 28, 2025.

Successful Candidates Should Possess

  • Working towards a high school diploma or enrolled at a post-secondary institution 
  • 1 year experience working with children  
  • Knowledge and understanding of STEM related topics  
  • Inspirational and creative thinking skills 
  • Customer service-oriented mindset
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to take initiative
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt to change
  • The ability to anticipate problems and opportunities, and develop effective solutions 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Must be able to commute to workplace location
  • This position may be funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons to be eligible.

What to Expect

Although our camp season runs in July and August, we are looking for Counsellors to begin training in late June 2026. This is a full-time, contract role that is a great opportunity for people who enjoy working with children.  

Hourly Wage

$17.60 per hour
