We are currently accepting applications for the following positions:

Camp Director (84 positions available – July and August):  The Camp Director is responsible for the successful operation of their STEM Camp location. Each Camp Director reports directly to the Program Coordinator at Head Office under the direct supervision of the Community Relations Director and the Management Team. Their responsibilities include:

  • Attending the mandatory training day for all Camp Directors
  • Training and scheduling the staff at their location
  • Direct supervision of the Education Coordinator and Camp Counsellors
  • Adhering to the STEM Camp “Policy for the Protection of Children”
  • Ensuring a smooth pick-up & drop-off process at the start and end of each day
  • Communicating with parents, either in person at the camp, by phone, text, or e-mail, whenever a parent seeks assistance or information about the camp or her/his child
  • Adhering to the Activity Schedule and the Training Manual
  • Purchasing extra supplies (when approved by Management Team or Head Office Designate)
  • Carrying out any duties assigned by the Program Coordinator or any other member of the Management Team (CEO, Executive Director, Community Relations Director)
  • Submitting to Head Office (in cooperation with the Education Coordinator), daily pictures and videos of activities at STEM Camp (within the confines of privacy laws) featuring…
    • Educational purpose of the activity
    • Labs/places visited (if any)
    • Guest presentation synopsis (if any)
    • How the activity relates to possible future careers
  • Organizing and conducting the STEM Fair
  • Managing the Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) leadership program
  • Leading activities with children of all ages when necessary
  • Completing Health and Safety Training (non-paid)
  • Performing duties as a Camp Counsellor in an emergency situation should one of the regular Camp Counsellors take ill or be granted time off
  • Submit weekly hours for staff to the Program Coordinator for payroll

Education Coordinator (84 positions available – July and August): The Education Coordinator is primarily responsible for the successful implementation of the curriculum at their STEM Camp location. Each Education Coordinator reports directly to the Camp Director at their location. Their responsibilities include:

  • Attending the mandatory training day for all Education Coordinators
  • Assisting the Camp Director in planning and attend the week long training with site staff at their location
  • Supervising staff from a curriculum implementation perspective to ensure STEM Camp curriculum is being implemented properly
  • Helping to ensure a smooth pick-up & drop-off process at the start and end of each day
  • Communicating with parents, either in person at the camp, by phone, text, or e-mail, whenever a parent seeks assistance or information about the camp or her/his child
  • Adhering to the Activity Schedule and the Training Manual
  • Purchasing extra supplies (when approved by Management Team or Head Office Designate)
  • Adhering to the STEM Camp “Policy for the Protection of Children”

The Education Coordinator role is most closely aligned with the duties and responsibilities of a classroom educator; therefore, applicants wishing to enter education as a career are well suited for this role.

Camp Counselor (336 positions available – July and August): A STEM Camp Counsellor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of campers who attend STEM Camp. Each Camp Counsellor reports to the Camp Director and the Education Coordinator. As a Camp Counsellor you will be guiding campers through STEM-related activities centered around the topics of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. A strong academic foundation in these areas is a huge asset. A Camp Counsellor must be fun and energetic but have good group management skills as well. Camp Counsellors are responsible for implementing activities, respecting safety and health protocols, assisting with cleanup and exhibiting strong leadership skills. Specific  responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and supporting a group of campers
  • Adhering to the STEM Camp “Policy for the Protection of Children”
  • Helping to ensure a smooth pick-up & drop-off process at the start and end of each day
  • Implementing the STEM Camp curriculum by leading inquiry, discussion and activities with campers
  • Assisting campers in learning more about STEM
  • Providing a fun and safe environment for campers
  • Carrying out any duties assigned by the Education Coordinator and/or the Camp Director
  • Adhering to the Activity Schedule and the Training Manual
  • Mentoring Counsellors-in-Training
  • Providing appropriate and professional feedback to parents
  • Modelling appropriate behaviour and positive interactions in all daily routines, program delivery with campers and your peers
  • Ensuring that all emergency procedures are taught and practiced by all campers at STEM Camp
  • Attending a one-week training session the week before camp begins
  • Completing Health and Safety Training (non-paid)

Office Assistant (1 position available – January to end of April or August): The Office Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and clerical services to management in order to effectively and efficiently support office operations. The position is ideal for co-op students looking for a 4 or 8 month placement in an administration program. This is a minimum wage position and the hours of employment are between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The successful applicant would be required to be in the Head Office in Embro, Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily office support; ensure operations are efficiently and accurately supported
  • Communicate with key stakeholders as required
  • Assist with the seasonal staff hiring and training process
  • Respond to parent enquiries by phone and e-mail
  • Perform other office duties as required

Hard Skills
The Office Assistant must be proficient in these areas:

  • MS Office and iWork software suites
  • Smart phones, tablets & computers; email and texting
  • Video communication software and tools such as faceTime & Skype
  • Business communication skills including written, verbal and body language
  • Internet-based research
  • General office procedures (filing, organizing, using office equipment, etc.)
  • Handling phone duties; maintaining exemplary customer service
  • Ability to produce accurate and timely reports for Management Team use

Qualifications and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited post secondary institution
  • Experience in customer service would be an asset
  • Experience managing projects would be an asset

Inventory Coordinator (3 positions available – May to August):

The Inventory Coordinator is responsible for providing inventory control support to STEM Camp locations and reports to Head Office in order to ensure effective and efficient office operations at STEM Camp.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide daily office support and ensure that STEM Camp operations are maintained in an efficient, up-to-date manner
  • Communicate with location and Head Office personnel
  • Receive and unpack boxes of supplies shipped to the warehouse
  • Enter the supplies into the inventory system
  • Pack boxes of supplies to be shipped to camp locations across Ontario
  • Use company vehicle to drive supplies to camp locations periodically
  • Perform other office duties as required

Knowledge:
The Inventory Coordinator must have a proficient general knowledge in these areas:

  • Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
  • General office procedures, following a pre-determined inventory tracking system
  • Ability to produce reports for Management Team use

Skills:
The Inventory Coordinator will demonstrate these important skills:

  • Cooperation and team building
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Effective verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

Camp Counselor-in-Training (unlimited positions available): Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Counselor-In-Training (aged 14-16) is responsible for assisting counsellors in leading and working with campers through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) related activities and and other assigned duties. A strong emphasis on developing leadership skills is incorporated into the non-paid Counselor-In-Training program.
